Govt must not delay scrapping default retirement age

The default retirement age (DRA) must be abolished without delay to avoid a negative impact on the economy as a whole, according to Ros Altmann, director general of Saga.

The DRA will be scrapped from April 2011 under current government plans, but the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) today called for the change to be delayed. It also wants further clarification from government on employment law surrounding retirement. Altmann says: "The timetable must certainly not slip. It is a huge waste of our national resources.
