IFA warns on CI small print after daughter's death

The head of an IFA firm has issued a warning to people taking out critical illness plans after his policies failed to pay out following the death of his daughter.

Karl Hartey, MD of Applewood Wealth Management, has hit out at the life sector for its stringent pay criteria and poor policy disclosure and says advisers should carefully read the small print before recommending any plan. He was speaking after an inquest last week into the death of his daughter, 16-year-old Charlotte Hartey. She died last July at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital from tonsillitis complications after being wrongly diagnosed with swine flu.
