Treasury investigates HMRC efficiency

A Treasury sub-committee today launches an inquiry into HMRC's effectiveness and administration, following several thousand cases of over and under-paid income tax.

This inquiry will examine HMRC's performance and its meeting of key aims such as those on tax compliance, the implication of the department's spending review settlement, whether PAYE reform is needed, and the department's future priorities. The investigation will build on a previous Treasury committee's work, which found problems with HMRC's efficiency, staff morale and performance when dealing with tax credits.
