Spending review will hit pensioners hardest

The average household with someone aged over 75 will lose £2,200 worth of public services per year by 2015, research from Age UK shows.

The research, published today, says over-75s will be hit harder than any other group by the spending review relative to their income. Their loss in public servies is equivalent to a sixth of their household income, the report claims. For the poorest people in this age category, the loss in public services will amount to £2,030 or a third of their household income. The poorest 65-74 year olds will lose the equivalent of 29% of their household income in services.
