State Street acquires exclusive ETF licence on S&P/ASX 200

US investment firm State Street Global Advisors (SSgA) has acquired an exclusive ETF licence to list and trade SPDR funds based on the S&P/ASX 200.

The licence, granted by index provider Standard & Poor's, means SSgA is the only company in Australia with the right to offer an ETF product replicating the nation's most popular benchmark index. Head of S&P Indices Australia Guy Maguire says S&P has awarded exclusivity to SSgA because of its "solid track record" in the Australian ETF market and its ability to deliver world-class solutions.
