Election 2010: Osborne vows to get economy moving

Shadow Chancellor George Osborne today put the economy at the centrepiece of the Tory election manifesto and pledged not to put taxes on jobs whilst the economy is still weak.

"The big question running through the heart of the election decisive to the country's future is how are we going to get the economy moving," Osborne said unveiling his party's manifesto at Battersea Power Station this morning. He said national debt had doubled under Labour and the Government's waste threatens to kill the economy. Meanwhile, shadow work and pensions secretary Theresa May set out plans for what she described as "the most radical plans for welfare since it first began," promising to get people off benefits and into work.
