As PMQs unfolded on Wednesday, 2 July and the gilt market went into convulsion at the sight of Rachel Reeves' tears, I'm ashamed to say, I had a selfish thought. Ever since the wise and authoritative Jeff Prestridge suggested I could be chancellor in a recent Mail on Sunday article, I've been giving it some serious thought. I think he was only partially joking. I asked my mum about it, and she reckons I'd make an excellent chancellor too.
