Afternoon Markets: Dow sneaks ahead

The Dow Jones opened higher in early trading on Friday with Procter & Gamble heading up the winner's table.

The index advanced more than 51 points (0.53%) to 9,835.69 with Procter & Gamble adding 2.37% to $56.85 after management announced ambitious plans to "win back" market share. Chevron added 1.54% to $73.08 after the oil company was raised to ‘outperform' from ‘neutral' by Credit Suisse Group AG. Elsewhere, American Express declined 0.77% to $34.73 while Boeing fell 0.43% to $52.65. In the UK, the FTSE maintained a lead in afternoon trading, adding 8.24 points (0.16%) to 5,172.19.
