European ETF assets reach record high of $192bn

European ETF assets reached a new high of $192.1bn at the end of August, bolstered by demand for emerging market funds, according to Barclays Global Investors.

The latest data from BGI's ETF Research and Implementation Strategy team shows that the new high is 5.3% above the previous record of $182.5bn in July, and 20.2% above the $159.9bn record set in July 2008. The report shows the European ETF market has 751 ETFs, 1,889 listings, and products issued by 33 providers on 19 exchanges, at the end of August. Assets were boosted by demand for emerging market equity ETFs, which increased by $8.8bn year to date, to hit $16.3bn at the end of August.
