STEPHEN Whittaker, New Star joint chief investment officer and manager of the £593m UK Growth fund, has struck a more upbeat note than many commentators on the prospects for the UK market in 2007.
Speaking at New Star's January Investment Conference, Whittaker said a series of facts and figures provided evidence of buoyant conditions. Speaking before the latest figures showing inflation measured by the retail price index had reached 3pc – surprising most economists – Whittaker said the interest rate environment was more stable in 2007 than it had been throughout much of the last century, which went hand-in-hand with inflation being under control.
