MetLife: increased longevity biggest threat to retirement plans

An adviser survey by MetLife has suggested that clients cite increasing longevity as the biggest threat to their retirement plans.

Whilst 42pc of advisers pointed to longevity as the major issue, just 27pc selected inflation as the prime concern, despite recent anxiety about the UK's rising inflation rate. Meanwhile, 18pc of advisers named stock market volatility as their chief worry and 11pc voiced their angst regarding the protection of savings in retirement. MetLife claimed rising longevity is driving the development of new retirement planning solutions including its own new Retirement Portfolio, which it claims is the first personal pension to offer capital and income guarantees.
