Global economy healthy and growing - IMF

GLOBAL economic growth is set to hit 5.2pc this year and next, according to the July update of the IMF's World Economic Outlook.

Growth is being underpinned by the emerging market economies, which turned in an impressive performance in the first half. Charles Collyns, deputy director of the IMF's Research Department, said: “Emerging market countries have led the way, with China growing by 11.5 pc in the first half of 2007, and India and Russia also growing very strongly.” Growth in these countries has offset relative weakness in the U.S, while growth in the eurozone and Japan has remained above trend.
