Survey finds ethical investors hardest hit by volatile markets

Investors in ethical funds have been amongst the hardest hit by the market volatility of the past year, according to the results of a survey by Investment Life & Pensions Moneyfacts.

The survey compared the performance of ethical funds, conventional non-ethical funds, index trackers and the FTSE 100 over one, three, five and ten years. It found that the average ethical fund has fallen 9.1pc over the last year, while the average non-ethical fund has fallen by 5.7pc. This represents a reversal of the situation a year ago, when the average ethical fund (13pc) had outperformed the average non-ethical fund (9.7pc) by 3.3pc over the preceding 12 months.
