Jupiter chief executive Edward Bonham Carter has warned markets are likely to be "schizophrenic" this year as policymakers struggle to fight the economic downturn.
Bonham Carter expects 2009 to prove far tougher for the global economy than last year and believes the UK recession could potentially last well into 2010. He says the Government will be forced to print money to help lessen the length of the negative period. "It is starting to feel like we are pushing on a string," Bonham Carter says.
