Former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan has warned a US economic recovery could take longer than expected.
Speaking at an investment conference in Saudi Arabia yesterday, the respected Wall Street veteran told the audience today's US economy is at “stall speed”. “As of right now, US economic growth is at zero,” Greenspan said. "Recovery might take longer to emerge than it usually does." Greenspan said the likelihood of economic contraction in the US increases the more time growth stays at zero. However, he did say a US downturn could be partially offset by other world markets. "Growing globalization of trade and the economy would facilitate the absorption of shocks in the US."
