AIC bemoans consumer ignorance

Almost a third of potential investors are put off making a stock market investment because they do not know enough about the markets to make a confident investment, according to the Association of Investment Companies (AIC).

A survey by the AIC found only a minor increase in the number of people not investing because of the risks involved, despite the current market crisis. The survey of over 2,000 adults in both June and September found 32% of potential investor did not invest because they don’t know enough about the stock market, while 24% did not invest because they were not sure how to make an investment. Affordability was the most common reason for not investing, with around half saying it was too expensive, while 15% were worried about the risks, compared with 12% in June.
