LSE Group tumbles to drag FTSE into red

Shares in the London Stock Exchange Group (LSE) plunged almost 13% to 828.5 on Thursday.

The drop, a fall of 123.5p, helped pull the FTSE into the red as the index slumped to 5,518.2, down 147.9p, or 2.61%. Invensys and Barclays also dropped, but gains for Lonmin and Cairn Energy helped steady a sinking ship. Lonmin advanced 92p, or 3%, to £31.59, while Cairn climbed 47p to £30.86. US stocks are suffering a similar demise midway through trading on Thursday, causing the Dow Jones to slip 204.77 points, or 1.73%, to 11,607.06.
