The FTSE 100 index is down 32.5 points or 0.51% to 6,350.3 in early trading, slipping back from earlier highs following Vodafone's takeover news.
Currently posting the biggest gains, Vodafone is up 1.68% to 151.75p, after it announced it has seized control of Hutchison Essar, India’s fourth-largest operator, after paying $11.1bn for a 67% stake in the company. Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce is up 1.64% to 510.5p, after an investment analyst upgrade, while GlaxoSmithKline has gained 0.76% to £14.61, Intercontinental Hotels has added 0.16% to £12.87, and Sainsbury has gained 0.15% to 511.75p. On the downside, however, Carnival is the biggest loser with a fall of 1.91% to £26.13, closely followed by Home Retail which is down 1.87% to 433.25...
