FTSE slides on oil

The FTSE 100 Index has fallen 2.80 points, or 0.1%, to 5,623 points this morning as oil companies come under pressure.

BP has dropped 1.76% to 585p and Royal Dutch Shell has fallen 0.90% to 1,756p after the price of crude oil slipped under $69 per barrel. British Energy has declined 1.89% to 674.50p as full year results came in slightly shy of market estimates. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average dropped 211.94 points, or 1.4%, to 14,648.41 points on concern the Federal Reserve may keep raising US interest rates. Toyota fell 60 yen, or 1%, to 5,780, Komatsu dropped 70 yen, or 3.4%, to 2,005 and TDK fell 220 yen, or 2.5%, to 8,430 yen. Orix, the nation's largest non-bank financial firm, declin...
