With-profits cool for cats says Datamonitor

With-profits products have a bright future despite the current glut of bad newsflow surrounding this type of financial product, says Datamonitor.

Research suggests sales of with-profits bonds will increase by 15% annually from £277m in 2003 to £560m by 2008, the consultant says. And its survey of 962 adults nationwide suggests IFAs themselves hold the power to make or break the future of with profits products. That is because more than half, 53%, of those surveyed say they are indifferent towards or have never even heard of with profits before. Sales of with-profits bonds through IFAs fell 47% between 2000 to 2003, while sales of unit-linked products increased 13% in the same period. Changing this trend will not be easy, ...
