FTSE flies higher thanks to BAE

The FTSE 100 has ended the day up 11.3 points, or 0.21%, to 5,518.5, as aerospace and real estate stocks kept it in positive territory while positive broker comments also gave the market a helping hand.

PartyGaming gained 3.52% to 132.5p, as HSBC raised its fair value target to 134p and upgraded its net earnings estimates for this year and next. Meanwhile, aerospace and defence group Smiths topped the risers with a rise of 36p, or 3.7%, to 1,008.5p, after Numis turned positive on the shares. BAE Systems was also riding higher with gains of 2.67% to 345.75p. British Land moved higher by 2.5% to 1,003p, following reports which suggested the Abu Dhabi royal family is the favourite to acquire a British Land City portfolio, including Plantation Place.
