Fears over the short-term state of the housing market have been sparked by a number of differing monthly indices, reports and surveys, all suggesting some change is ongoing.

Some reports indicate the market is going downhill rapidly in parts of the country, with steep house price falls, whereas other reports are solid in their conclusions the market is simply pausing for breath. These reports are, however, short-term in their outlook, which means there are other factors to consider.
