The FTSE stumbled in early trading, slipping 3.6 points, or 0.06%, to 5,980.3 after reports of a record low for the Great British Pound (GBP).
BHP Billiton has taken the heaviest hit, falling 54p, or 2.99%, to £17.50, but is closely followed by Experian, down 9.5p to 354.25p, and Antofagasta, down 20p to 766p. British Energy Group is doing the most to keep the FTSE competitive, climbing 35.5p, or 5.06%, to 737p. Cairn Energy, up 67p to £30.27, and Severn Trent, up 23p to £14.69, are also doing well, as are Tullow Oil and BP. In the US, the Dow Jones slipped 49.18 points, or 0.39%, to 12,527.26 in trading on Wednesday.
