Standard Life has discovered over 70% of consumers underestimate their weight on protection new business applications in comparison to official medical results.

A total of 200 individuals were randomly selected and asked to visit a paramedic and complete a few additional medical checks when applying for protection products at Standard Life, so the company could glean how accurate disclosed medical information is in relation to actual medical condition of consumers. Findings of this study reveal just 10% of the 200 cases accurately stated their weight on medical applications, as 20% of those questioned were found to be lighter than they stated and 70% believed they were lighter than the scales suggest.
