FTSE flat as miners decline

The FTSE 100 has hardly moved from its overnight position as the mining and oil sectors are punished in early trading. The index is currently sitting on 6089.60.

Miners are plunging for the second day in a row, with Vedanta Resources at the forefront of the losses, down 4.34% to 2248. Compatriot Kazakhmys is also lower, down 3.16% to 1596. Energy giant BG Group has fallen 3.82% to 1258, following a takeover approach for Australian firm Origin. Insurer Admiral is the leading the way as financials continue to report solid Q1 figures, up 5.97% to 869.50. Home Retail is also doing remarkably well, up 5.77% to 256.75 and BSkyB is ahead on positive third quarter statement, up 3.05% to 557. In New York, a late slide on Wall Street pushed the ...
