FTSE gains despite US recession fears

The FTSE gained 3.2 points, or 0.05%, this morning, reaching 6194.4p. The rise comes despite global fears of a US recession.

Smiths Group rose 24.5 points, or 2.51%, to 999.5p. Lonmin rose 71 points, or 2.16%, to 3363p. United Utilities rose 11 points, or 1.66%, to 675p. ITV rose 1.7 points, or 1.56%, to 110.8p. Kelda rose 13 points, or 1.55%, to 852p. Associated British Foods fell 12.5 points, or 1.49%, to 824.5p. Drax fell nine points, or 1.42%, to 623.5p. BG Group fell 11 points, or 1.35%, to 804p. Sage Group fell 2.75 points, or 1.13%, to 240.25p. Wolseley fell 10.5 points, or 1.09%, to 952.5p. The Dow Jones suffered on Friday’s closing, losing 249.97 points, or 1.87%.
