MGM Assurance, the mutual life assurance society, has appointed Laurie Edmans as deputy chairman.
He comes out of retirement to replace Charles Woodword, who remains with the company as non-executive director. Edmans, an adviser to the Thoresen Review of Generic Financial Advice and a founding board member of the Pensions Regulator, joins from Aegon where he worked as director of corporate development from 2000 until his retirement in June 2006. Before joining Aegon he worked at the National Provident Institution from 1989, eventually becoming deputy chief executive.
