Britons' confidence in the economy has hit a new low, with almost half convinced the outlook for their finances and their job will deteriorate over the next six months, The Telegraph reports.
Consumer confidence fell for the eighth successive month in May, according to a survey published by Nationwide today. Its consumer confidence barometer hit 69 points last month, the lowest since it started four years ago. The news came after the building society's own figures showed house prices declined by 2.5% last month, and coincided with a study from Hometrack showing that more than a quarter of young households are still unable to get on the property ladder.
