Vodafone profits boost FTSE

The FTSE rose 24.5 points, or 0.39%, to 6362.4p this afternoon.

Vodafone rose 13.7 points, or 7.53%, to 195.7p following news that the mobile phone operator’s profits have risen to £4.56bn from a £3.33bn loss in the first six months of 2006. Daily Mail and General Trust rose 31 points, or 5.53%, to 592p. DSG International rose 5.9 points, or 5.13%, to 120.8p. Royal Bank of Scotland Group rose 18 points, or 4.09%, to 457.75p. Morrison Supermarkets rose 10.75 points, or 4.05%, to 276.5p. Rio Tinto fell 268 points, or 4.74%, to 5390p. ICAP fell 23 points, or 3.71 points, to 597.5p.
