Employers searching for advisers on behalf of staff should look to the personality factor as much as the CV when deciding who to use, says the Association of IFAs.
Paul Smee, AIFA director general, says this includes looking at IFAs' past experiences and qualifications before making a decision. It is also important the employer and adviser are able to form a good personal relationship, Smee has told the the NAPF conference. Communication skills play an important part when judging how successful an IFA will be in dealing with employees, according to what the IFA community itself believes the industry should ask of advisers, Smee adds.
