Adviser found guilty of murder

A London-based financial adviser has been found guilty of murdering an 86-year-old prize winning author in order to steal his identity and plunder his wealth.

Wang Yam, 46, has been convicted of killing Allan Chappelow, well known for his books on George Bernard Shaw, at his Hampstead home. The reclusive author was found dead, hidden under a pile of papers and manuscripts, in May 2006 after suffering severe head injuries. According to reports at the time, he might have been the victim of identity theft before his death. It was believed bank officials tipped off police after becoming aware Chappelow had lost money from his account through a series of false transactions.
