Miner disturbance sends FTSE down

Miners drilled into the positive start for the FTSE 100 today, sending the index 1.3 points lower, or 0.02%, to 6512.7.

Kazakhmys is lower on news its overall yearly production could be lower than 2006, after copper cathode output dipped 5% in Q3. The mining giant is 59 points lower, or 3.97%, to 1426. The poor opening for Kazakhmys has hit the whole sector, with AstraZeneca down 2.52% to 2396 and Vedanta Resources 2.42% lower, to 2098. Home Retail is leading the gains after it announced a strong first half performance; it is up 14 points this morning, or 3.62%, to 401. Carphone Warehouse and Aviva are also doing well so far, up 3.26% to 341 and 2.28% to 717.5 respectively. In New York, strong earn...
