NRock will return to private ownership - Sandler

Ron Sandler, the new executive chairman of Northern Rock, insists the bank can be returned to the private sector in time.

However, he also indicated is could take some time for the stricken bank to repay all of its loans to the Government. Speaking at a press conference in Newcastle, Sandler says: "Repayment of government loans will clearly take some time but it is a feasible prospect that this bank can pay those loans and return to the private sector." He says public ownership of Northern Rock is not intended to run the bank’s operations down, but to revitalise the business, making it profitable and eventually returning it to the private sector.
