The FTSE rose 1.01%, or 64.6 points, to 6481.3p this afternoon as Tullow Oil rose on growing energy prices reports. The energy company rose 5.89%, or 38 points, to 683p.
International Power also increased, rising 3.9%, or 17.5 points, to 466p. Next continued its fall following disappointing sales reports, dropping 6.9%, or 115 points, to 1551p. Persimmon fell 5.11%, or 40 points, to 743p. The Dow Jones rose 0.45%, or 59.26 points, to 13103.22c today as Coca Cola led gains. The soft drinks manufacturer rose 1.38%, or 0.84 points, to 61.93c. General Motors fell 3.44%, or 0.84 points, to 23.57c following reports analysts expect pre-December sales figures to show a decline.
