Benchmark FTSE stocks fall

The FTSE began slowly on Friday, dropping 0.36% to 6357.9. Early gainers included power supply firm Drax Group, which was up 1.33% to 725.5p. This was closely followed by BP, which is up 1.25% to 527p, and Sainsbury's, up 0.97% to 520p.

However, these gains were stemmed by the Lloyds TSB Group, down 3.51% to 591.5p, and the Rolls-Royce Group, down 1.36% to 508p. Old Mutual was also down, 1.35% to 182.25. In the US, the Dow Jones dropped 52.39, or 0.41% to close on 12686.02. Computing firm Intel Corp made the largest gains, rising 0.43% to $20.97. This was closely followed by Exxon Mobil Corp, up 0.4% to end on $75.08, and Verizon Communications, which finished up 0.39% at $38.44. These gains were stemmed however by GEN Motors, down by 2.09% to close on $34.63, pharmaceutical firm Merck & Co, down 1.71% to $43.20, a...
