RBS ever-present but FTSE tumbles

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) continues to dominate the FTSE100 winner's table but the index has opened tentatively, dropping 18.2 points, or 0.34%, to 5,268.1.

RBS, whose shares soared in value yesterday, has again climbed this morning to 185.1p per share, a rise of 5.6p, or 3.12%. Carnival and Whitbread have also made early gains, by 38p to £16.47 and 25p to £10.91 respectively. Household and healthcare firm Reckitt Benckiser currently tops the loser’s table, sliding 141p, or 5.67p, to £23.47. It is followed by Ferrexpo and Eurasian. In the US, stocks rocketed to leave the Dow Jones up 207.38 points, or 1.85%, to 11,446.66 at close of play Thursday.
