FTSE flies higher

The FTSE 100 Index has added 17.3 points, or 0.3%, to 5840.7 points this morning, led by British Airways.

British Airways has added 6p, or 1.6%, to 376.25 points after it said most US long-haul flights from London Heathrow airport and 70% of short-haul flights will likely operate today. BP has advanced 4.5p, or 0.7%, to 619.5p. The oil producer gained permission from pipeline regulators to keep about a quarter of the oil flowing from the largest US oil field. Anglo American has gained 25p, or 1.1%, to 2,328p and BHP Billiton has added 9p, or 0.9%, to 992p after copper for delivery in three months on the London Metal Exchange rose $95, or 1.2%, to $7,970 a metric ton.
