Trustees say DB schemes will survive next 10 years

A total of 80% of trustees predict their defined benefit (DB) pension schemes will still exist in 10 years, according to Aon Consulting.

A survey of more than 250 DB scheme trustees shows 52% believe their scheme will last in excess of another 20 years and just 20% think their scheme will wind up within a decade. However, 50% of employers in a 2007 survey by Aon predicted a scheme wind-up within the same period. Aon says the conflict in expectations suggests a significant communication gap between trustee boards and sponsoring companies.
