FTSE flies higher with BA

British Airways is leading the FTSE higher by about 18 points to 4,419.

The airline is up 5p to 228.5p as the price of oil, one of its biggest input costs, fell on supply news. GlaxoSmithKline is up 15p to 1,119 on news a business it has spun off may be floated in its own right. Rentokil is down 7p to 146p after news its management will not split up the company, but instead intends to cut administrative costs and make acquisitions to boost growth and profitability. Shares gained in New York overnight. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 83.11 to 10,181.74, while the broader S&P 500 index gained 8.77 points to 1,104.96. Shares were mostly down ...
