Profit downgrades hit FTSE

In London, markets fell in early trading as several firms announced profit figures and the FTSE 100 was down 25.5 points, or 0.38%, to 6,680.5.

Schroders shares made the biggest gains, up 31 points, or 2.1%, to £15.07, closely followed by Schroders NV, up 24 points, or 1.86%, to £13.11. Invesco added 8.5 points, or 1.19%, to 722p, Hammerson gained 12 points, or 1.17%, to £10.41, and Liberty International climbed 13 points, or 1.14%, to £11.52. Tate & Lyle shares dropped 9.25 points, or 2.1%, to 432p, Northern Rock lost 3.9 points, or 2.05%, to 186.1p, while British Airways fell 7.75 points, or 1.77%, to 430p.
