FTSE climbs out of bear territory

London trading recovered from earlier setbacks to end the day on a positive note, with the FTSE 100 up 27.9 points (0.525) to 5404.3.

Ferrexpo made the biggest gains, up 20.5 (7.59%) to 290.5p, while Land Securities added 69p (5.82%) to £12.55. HBOS shares fell after investors snubbed its £4bn rights issues, down 17.5 (6.21%) to 264.5p, while WPP Group lost 20.25 (4.13%) to 470p. On Wall Street, Trading got off to a shaky start and by mid-morning the Dow Jones was just 2.36 points (0.02%) up at 11,498.93. Bank of America shares led a rally for financial stocks, up 2.67 (9.71%) to $30.16, while AIG added 2.33 (9.29%) to $27.40. Merck shares slid 1.56 (4.14%) to $36.12, and Home Depot shares dropped 0.43 (1.83%) to $23....
