Draft amended regulations on how age discrimination will be applied to pensions could affect at least a third of pensions schemes, claims Mercer.
As the consultation on the proposals prepares to end today, the consulting firm claims the amended regulations put forward could force employers to either reduce members’ benefits or go through the costly exercise of setting up a new pensions trust. Mercer says if the regulations are implemented in their current form at least a third of pension schemes could be affected, as the draft regulations will “severely restrict” an employers’ ability to have more than one ‘section’ in their pension scheme.
