FTSE smashes through 6,000

In London today, the FTSE has made a promising start in early trading, taking its index value to 6,060.30.

The 65 point, or 1.08%, rise has taken the FTSE up to its 6,000+ status for the first time since the 87.6p plunge on Wednesday, and continues to build upon yesterday’s modest improvement. Cairn Energy is leading the winner’s table, advancing 139p, or 4.36%, to reach £33.28. Scottish & Southern Energy has also seen promising movements this morning, jumping up to £15.35; a 61p or 4.14% increase. Johnson Matthey (£20.40), BG Group (£12.74) and Xstrata (£40.87) have also witnessed decent improvements, with all three rising over 3%.
