Trading on the FTSE began and ended in tepid fashion, with the index finishing down 0.9 points, or 0.01%, on 6649.3.
Vedanta Resources was among the day’s few winners, finishing 53 points in the green, or 3.37%, on £16.24. Invesco also had a strong Wednesday, climbing 19.5 points, or 3.17%, on 634p, as did Standard Life, up nine points, or 2.65%, on 349p. These gains were offset by poor shows from Morrison Supermarkets, down 8.5 points, or 2.82%, to 292.75p, Centrica, down 10 points, or 2.59%, on 376.75p, and Land Securities Group, down 39 points, or 2.13%, to £17.92.
