Bradford & Bingley stays strong on FTSE

The FTSE closed 83.10 points up, or 1.27%, this afternoon, at 6642.7.

Bradford & Bingley maintained its opening position at the top of the market, rising 23.25 points, or 5.82%, at 423p. Centrica closed at 380.75, rising 16.25 points, or 4.46%. Johnson Matthey increased by 64 points, or 3.86%, finishing at 1722p. Rio Tinto soared 119 points, or 3.2%, closing at 3840p. Legal & General rose 4.7 points, or 3.11%, reaching 4.7p at close of trading. Experian was one of the day’s worst performers, falling five points, or 0.81%, closing at 611p. Cable and Wireless dropped 1.4 points, or 0.7%, at 198.4p. Steven Trent fell four points, or 0.27%, at 14747p. ...
