Builders and Barclays boost early FTSE

The FTSE100 has opened in positive territory this morning as Barclays dominates the news early Monday. The blue chip index is currently 10.30 points (0.18%) higher to 5813.10.

Barclays is leading the way after it announced it is considering a rights issue, 8.41% higher so far to 344.75. Homebuilders are also going well, with Persimmon leading the sector – up 6.68% to 439. Miner Eurasian continues its recent rise, up 3.71% to 1370; while Alliance & Leicester is 3.62% higher to 351. UBS downgrade to ‘sell’ has hit both Unilever and Cadbury, down 3.24% to 1522 and 1.99% to 639 respectively.
