Northern Rock has started to claw back the major losses incurred earlier in the week - driving the FTSE 100 up 36.60 points, or 0.56%, to close the week at 6607.9.
The lender had the largest gains in London trading, climbing 39 points, or 4.70%, to 868. Property groups struggled, with both Liberty International and Segro among the hardest hit. Liberty was down 28 points, or 2.39% to 1145.00 – while Segro closed on 625, a fall of 12.5 points, or 1.96%. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones is having a strong morning, with US stocks rising on eased fears of an inflation rate hike. The index is up 58.53 points, or 0.44%, to 13480.81 – in early trading.
