Alan Steel Asset Management, a leading Scottish independent financial adviser, has been targeted by fraudsters, reports the Scotsman.
The firm found an exact copy of its accounts, including the names of the directors, had been posted at Companies House in November by a dormant business based in Exeter. A Companies House employee became suspicious because the new company had not posted accounts since it was registered in 2002 and a cross-check of the directors revealed the attempted scam.
