Pensioners 'on the breadline' - report

Poverty amongst pensioners is "spiraling out of control" with one in four approaching retirement in debt, a study suggests.

An additional 26% are approaching pensioner age concerned about their mounting debts while 12% are planning to work beyond retirement age to supplement their income, according to Just Retirement It follows a report published earlier this month by financial adviser Hargreaves Lansdown which suggested personal pension funds have crashed by almost a fifth in 2008 following the steep falls in world stock markets. The firm said in September alone retirement savings have lost more than 10% of their value as investors sell their shares to avoid the worst effects of the credit crunch. Just Re...
