Mortgage lending up again - BoE

Net mortgage lending increased by £9.8bn in July official figures from the Bank of England released today show.

This was above the increase of £9bn in June and well above the previous six month average of £8.9bn, says the Bank. Meanwhile, the twelve-month growth rate continued to increase, by 1% to 11.2% since July last year. The figures also show the number of loans approved for house purchase (at 120,000) was higher than in June while approvals for remortgaging (at 96,000) and other purposes (at 73,000) were both lower than the respective June outturns.
